DADAR Overview
Dadar, an important part of Mumbai was and is a prime point of business. Dadar, meaning ‘ladder’ in Marathi, has an age-old history reaching back to the 16th century and was then known as ‘lower Mahim’, owing to its location on the island of Mahim. Changes during the British rule and the epidemics in Mumbai led to the Dadar-Matunga-Wadala-Sion scheme, during which several institutions including schools and government offices were moved to Dadar, thus making the place significant.
Dadar now is still one of the most happening places in Mumbai, a business hub, a favourite shopper’s stop, a hot-spot for real estate as well as a tourist attraction. Location
Dadar, in the south of Mumbai city, is a prominent place that is located between Matunga, Wadala, Parel, Prabhadevi and Elphinstone Road. A railway line divides Dadar into East and West and is popularly called Dadar T.T and Dadar B.B respectively. The East and West parts of Dadar are connected by the famous Lokmanya Tilak bridge which more precisely connects the East and West of Mumbai.
