Santacruz Overview
Santacruz or Santa Cruz comes from the Portuguese word which means ‘Holy Cross’. It refers to a 150-year-old cross that is located on the Chapel Lane in a home for destitute women established by Mother Teresa's trust. Santacruz is a part of the H East and West wards of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai. The famous SNDT University campus is also located in Santacruz.
Santacruz area has Vile Parle to its north, Khar towards its south, Juhu area in the west and Bandra and Kurla in the east. The locality is divided in to Santa Cruz East and West and this division is done by the Mumbai Suburban Railway line. It’s a secure locality with well-lit streets and gated communities. A fairly clean place, Santacruz does have some drainage issues. This locality has the Kalina-Kurla Link Road and the Western Express Highway going through it. Many cooperative multi-storey and other apartments house upper and upper-middle class residents.
